ASPHYX

Asphyx were formed in the Netherlands in 1987 and helped define death/doom. Their songs keep shifting between slow, crushing passages and fast, raw parts, and hardly anyone gets that balance as right as they do. «The Rack» and «Last One on Earth» from the early nineties are classics of the genre. Singer Martin van Drunen, known from Pestilence, has been back in the band since 2007, and his voice is still instantly recognizable. Their latest album «Necroceros» shows they haven’t lost any of their heaviness. Live, they’re about as reliable as old-school death metal gets, and very loud.
